A major boost for downtown Buffalo, Ingram Micro is opening new offices, bringing more than 12 hundred jobs and investment to the downtown core.
Bill Brandel, President of Ingram Micro North America, said they were in the midst of remodeling their existing building in Amherst when the downtown site came up and it offered them amenities that they couldn't have otherwise.
"Things like a 24/7 fitness center, covered parking and two restaurants; one of them a bakery and the other a French restaurant. We would not have been able to do those things in our existing building," said Brandel. "Plus, it's exiting to plug into the uniqueness of Buffalo and the culture, restaurants and sporting events."
The tech company offers a flexible work environment. Employees work in the office three days a week and have the flexibility of working two days remotely.
Brandel admits that announcing the change took some getting used to.
"It was a bit of a shock," he said. "Once we started walking everyone through it, the excitement grew each day."
The transformation from the former Highmark building at 257 W. Genesee St. in downtown Buffalo was a complete remodel.
"We went right down to the studs," said Brandel. "We retro-fitted it to our needs. We have a modern workforce that operates in a true collaborative environment, so we had to start from scratch. We also added a solutions center that will be a showpiece for all of our visitors."
Ingram Micro is a technology solutions company, as well as providing support for all of the leading technology manufacturers. It's roots go back to the 1980's.
