Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - In a push for greater transparency at Buffalo City Hall, Mayor Sean Ryan announced Thursday the public release of files related to the Buffalo Police Department Internal Affairs investigation into the April 11, 2024, incident involving Erie County Sheriff's Narcotics Chief D.J. Granville.

Ryan says the Granville saga and the case has run counter to his goal of transparency as mayor. All files connected to the investigation are now available to the public through the city’s online Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) portal. Members of the public can search for case number 26-207 to review all materials associated with the release.

In the coming weeks, Ryan says his administration will conduct a deeper review of the files to determine what changes are needed and who should be held accountable in the case.

"No more hiding the ball," the mayor said Thursday.

Ryan also announced internal policy changes within the Buffalo Police Department, focusing on incidents involving officers’ family members and interactions with other law enforcement officials.

He criticized the previous administration for what he described as a lack of transparency and fairness in handling the Granville investigation.
Ryan said he was disappointed the matter was closed before his administration had the opportunity to review it further.
