Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Now that New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced a $254 billion budget deal for the upcoming fiscal year, will Buffalo be able to implement their hotel bed tax and parking authority?
"We haven't heard anything yet about any of the legislative items that may or may not be included. But as recently as this weekend, I've had conversations with people in Albany who felt good about it. So I'm very optimistic that they'll be in there, very hopeful that they'll be in there. Obviously they'd be tremendously important," stated Buffalo Mayor Chris Scanlon.
Scanlon says the city is actively working with Albany to find out as soon as possible.
"We'll continue to make some calls today. We want to know as quickly as possible. Obviously, those two pieces of legislation have a major impact on our financial situation. The faster we know, the faster we'll be able to prepare for the future. As I've said all along, whether it's the hotel tax or the parking authority, both provide us a platform and a road map to where the city of Buffalo can become fiscally solvent, fiscally secure for years to come," Scanlon explained.
