
Niagara Falls, N.Y. (WBEN) - The New York State Park Marine unit have recovered a Jeep that was driven off the Niagara Scenic Parkway Monday morning, but they have yet to recover the driver - or, if there other passengers in the vehicle.
The search continues in a joint effort between the State Parks Police, New York State Police, Niagara Falls Police Department and Niagara Falls Fire Department.
According to a release from the state park's police, the Jeep was spotted about 10:49 a.m. Monday, almost 90 minutes after the incident was first reported around 9:15 a.m. by joggers and walkers.
Witnesses said the Jeep drove off the Niagara Scenic Parkway not far from the bird overlook. The vehicle was spotted approximately 50 feet off shore.
As of early Monday afternoon, recovery efforts were continuing as was the investigation into the incident.
State police, state park police, Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies, and other first responders are at the scene.
