Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Developer Doug Jemal is the new owner of another downtown building.
Jemal bid $4.1 million for the Mahoney State office building downtown. The Mahoney Building is adjacent to the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center on Court Street.
"A repurposed Mahoney building has great potential to become part of downtown Buffalo's continued resurgence," says Office of General Services Commissioner RoAnn DeStito. "The auctioning of underused State-owned properties is a priority for New York State, and we look forward to when the community will see a new use for the former Buffalo State Office Building on Niagara Square."
OCS says a work group was formed in 2019 made up of City, County, and State officials working with professional real estate consultants CBRE. The group determined in the Buffalo real estate market, the highest and best use of the building was no longer state office space.
Jemal, who already has begun work on Seneca One Tower, the former Buffalo Police Headquarters and Statler City, plans on turning the five story building into a hotel.
