Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Section VI football playoffs begin Thursday, and this year's championship will have a new home at UB's Broadview Stadium after nearly 50 years at the former Rich/Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park.
"[UB] has been awesome as far as preparations. I think it's going to be a great venue. You're going to have teams that are playing for a sectional championship that are playing on a Division 1 football field, and I think that's pretty special," Section VI football chairman Jay Sirianni tells WBEN.
Both stadiums have their differences. Sirianni says the Bills' old home was loud, even with crowds that paled in comparison to what the NFL draws. That noise made it difficult for teams to communicate. Sirianni is excited though for what Broadview Stadium brings.
"I think it's gonna be a little bit easier because of the acoustics there at UB for coaches to communicate with their players, but on the other side of that too you might have more fans in that condensed area on that home side which may make it look like there was more people there."
You can catch the playoffs on WBEN beginning Thursday at 6:45 p.m. when Health Sciences plays Niagara Falls at Riverside. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
Championship games will be played Nov. 12-13.
