Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Some Republican lawmakers are pushing back against the Trump administration's comments on Greenland this week.

Over the past several days, the president has renewed his call for Greenland to come under American control. The White House Press Secretary went as far as saying using the military was an option.

So far, that idea doesn't have much support in Washington.

"There is not going to be any sort of military exercise to take Greenland," said Congressman Nick Langworthy, an outspoken supporter of the president.

The Congressman called the comments from Trump administration officials "provocative."

"It would be a great asset for the United States if it made sense, if you could diplomatically acquire Greenland," Langworthy said. "There's not going to be any sort of military exercise. It would be absolutely foolish and unnecessary."

Several other Republican lawmakers echoed Langworthy's comments on Wednesday.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that a meeting about Greenland would happen next week, but it's unknown who will take part or when that might happen.
