Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) ...SUNY Erie's downtown Buffalo campus was shut down Friday morning amid reports of someone with a gun was reportedly spot walking through the Ellicott Street building.
But, Buffalo police later said no gun or suspect was found.
Still, the report drew a large contingent of Erie County Sheriff's officer, Buffalo Police, the New York State Police, federal ATF agents and NFTA Transit police.
The incident was first reported around 10:15 a.m. with a 911 call.
The blocks around the SUNY Erie campus were closed off to traffic as police agencies continued their investigation.
One professor, Brian Jank was teaching a sociology class when he received a text alert and he immediately blocked his classroom door in the event there was a gun man in the building.
"My first thought was to keep my students safe and calm," Jank said.
It worked.
Police later asked Jank and his students to evacuate the building.
"It was the right thing to do under the circumstances," Jank said.
Shortly after noon, it was confirmed that no gun or suspect was found.
