BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) "We were blown away at the response from the community." Lauren Moloney Ford, Canalside General Manager, on the newest attraction on the Buffalo waterfront.

The Roller Rink at Canalside opened in mid-August and as it looks to wrap up its season on Halloween, it's expected it will have hosted nearly ten thousand skaters in its inaugural season.

"We were up against weather for a few weekends, but when the weather was nice, we had people from all over Buffalo. People told us they hadn't skated since they were a kid. Some brought their grandkids. We were overwhelmed at the interest," added Moloney Ford.

Themed-skate nights were very popular. Pride night, Discos, Flannel-Fest, to name a few. Moloney Ford said they are looking at adding theme nights to the ice skating season.

Starting next week, crews will get to work to prepare the canals for the ice rink. Moloney Ford said they hope to announce an opening date for the ice rink in the next few weeks.

At more than 30,000 square feet, the Roller Rink at Canalside is the largest outdoor roller skating rink in New York State.
