CLARENCE, N.Y. (WBEN)......LenCo Lumber is on the move, with its Clarence location.

The 68-year-old, locally-owned lumber and building goods retailer, wants to shift its Clarence site from a 56,000-square-foot former Alpert's Furniture store at 8075 Sheridan Drive to a new site at 7631 Transit Road. The new site is less than two miles from LenCo's current Sheridan Drive store.

Company officials said the building is designed to offer more efficient space.

LenCo officials will be meeting with the Clarence Planning Board on May 20 to discuss the proposed, new 43,200-square-foot store at the site of the former Bitterman's Automotive property.

Plans call for constructing the new building but also renovating an existing 15,450-square-foot building on the property. Part of the renovations call for reducing the size of the building by 4,000-square=feet.

LenCo, last year, paid $1.15 million for the Transit Road property.

If approved by Clarence officials, construction will take one year to complete.

A final development price tag has yet to be determined.

The current LenCo store on Sheridan Drive - just north of Eastern Hills Mall - will remain open and fully operational until the new site is completed.

In addition to its Clarence stores, LenCo has outlets on Bailey Avenue in Buffalo and Delaware Avenue in the Town of Tonawanda.
