Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The grain elevators at Canalside have been in the dark this summer, much to the chagrin of folks who come down each year.
Debbie Williams lives in Colden, but frequents Canalside often. She loves seeing the light show on the grain elevators, but for, at least, the last couple of months, it hasn't been on.
"This is the 200th anniversary of the Erie Canal, and we're getting more visitors and more local people discovering our waterways. It's a shame, because it's such a wonderful feature of the Canalside," said Williams in an interview with WBEN.
Williams says it's sad to not see the light show along the Buffalo Waterfront.
"It seems to me, in the year 2025, when we can do amazing things with technology, they should be able to find a solution," contends Williams, who considers this a bonus. "It's something I tell my friends to check out."
The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation (ECHDC) issued the following statement to WBEN:
"The grain elevator light system is antiquated and no longer fully functioning. The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation is investigating potential future illumination options for the grain elevators."
