ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Veteran linebacker Shaq Thompson is back in Buffalo after being one of 17 players signed to the Bills' practice squad on Monday.
Thompson has 11 seasons of NFL experience — the first 10 with Carolina — and had been unsigned since his one-year contract with the Bills expired in March. The 32-year-old provides depth at inside linebacker for a defense switching to a 3-4 system under new coordinator Jim Leonhard.
The Bills' active roster features just four inside linebackers, led by starters Terrel Bernard and Dorian Williams. Thompson had six starts in 12 games with Buffalo last season.
Another practice squad addition was receiver Greg Dortch, who joined Buffalo a day after the sixth-year player was cut by Detroit. Dortch spent the previous five seasons with Arizona, where he had 145 catches for 1,310 yards and 10 touchdowns in 66 games.
Also added to the Bills' practice squad were safety Geno Stone and quarterback Shane Buechele, both of whom were released by Buffalo a day earlier.
