Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - "Everyone is looking for salt and, unfortunately, not many people have it."
Nick Bretherton of N.E. Bretherton Soil and Stone in Clarence says he has been able to get it and the response from the public has been, as he describes it, "insane."
"We're just trying to fill the void," Bretherton added in an interview with WBEN.
People are very happy that this salt is available to them.
"We've had such a positive response from the community. We've made a lot of friends. It's been humbling for me and my wife," Bretherton said.
Yes, he said it's rock salt, but it's more than that.
"It means your grandma is not slipping and falling. We've heard stories of people breaking bones and falling and they need the salt to prevent that," Bretherton said.
The public is invited to bring a 5 gallon bucket and they will fill it for $10.
If Bretherton provides the bucket, it's $17. They are also selling it by the ton for $180. This is not open to municipalities.
A five-gallon bucket weights approximately 60 pounds. That's why this is being offered as a drive-thru service.
"You don't even have to get out of your car," said Bretherton.

Bretherton does not expect to run out, as he has suppliers bringing it in from different states.
Some days the lines are long, as customers have told him that they waited two-and-a-half-to-three hours to wait for salt.
