Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown has been visibly angry in discussing the looting following the blizzard in Buffalo and tells us arrests have been made and will continue to be made.
"I don't know how these people can even live with themselves, how they can look at themselves in the mirror. They are the lowest of the low," said Brown during a news briefing with Governor Kathy Hochul Monday.
What angers Brown most is what the looters are taking. "They're not looting foods and medicines. They're just looting items that they want. So these aren't even people in distress," says Brown. He says these are people who are taking advantage of a disaster to take what they want from retailers. He adds retailers are put at risk as well.
Buffalo Police Commissioner Joe Gramaglia too is concerned and acting and says he has seen some reports on social media. "Our officers have responded to several reports, we have made a few arrests," says Gramaglia.
Gramaglia says police assisted at least one location in getting a store boarded up after being looted. He says officers are being transitioned from search and rescue to their regular patrols and dealing with the matter.
At least 28 deaths have been recorded as a result of the storm.
