Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - We could use a heartwarming story with a happy ending about now in the Buffalo-Niagara region, right?
Well, enter Jim Skoney(right in above picture), who is credited with saving a dog from Ellicott Creek Friday afternoon. In the end, the dog was reunited with its owner at the SPCA Serving Erie County.
Skoney says he was driving by the creek when he saw several people watching the water. "I looked over and could see something bobbing around in there some animal of some type," says Skoney, and decided to take action. "You can see the dog in the water bobbing up and down going underwater and then above and trying desperately to swim to get toward the bank of the creek and was not able to," explains Skoney, who says the dog is older.
Skoney says he got on his stomach and went down to the edge of the creek. "I had a lady holding my feet and so I wouldn't slide in, and he started going away a little bit and I started calling him back and he was not sure where he's going," says Skoney. "He got close enough to me where he started bobbing down again and and I I just reached out and pulled them in close and grabbed him by the scruff of the neck," explains Skoney. Skoney then took the dog to the SPCA.
Skoney says he could relate to the dog and his owner. "We do have a dog and he's elderly, like this one was, and I was thinking, I would hope that someone would never just drive by and let my dog if he slipped into the creek," notes Skoney.
The dog has been reunited with his owner and is doing well.
A dog, a family and community is thankful, Mr. Skoney.
