Marginal risk for severe weather in Western New York Sunday

(AccuWeather/WBEN)The National Weather Service has placed all of Western New York under a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms Sunday.

A few storms could develop during the afternoon and continue into the early evening. The main threats will be damaging wind gusts and hail.


National Weather Service meteorologist Jon Hitchcock said the marginal risk is a Level 1 out of 5 for severe thunderstorms. The storms are expected from the late afternoon through the evening, roughly between 3 and 9 p.m.

The timing could bring storms near the end of the game.

The storms will be fast-moving and could produce torrential downpours, but the heaviest rain should not last long.

Sunday: Sun and clouds with an afternoon thunderstorm. Storms could produce damaging wind gusts, hail and downpours. High 77.

Sunday night: An evening thunderstorm is possible, with damaging winds, mostly cloudy skies and cooler temperatures. Low 54.

Monday: Sun and some clouds. Less humid, with dry weather returning. High 68.

Dry weather will return Monday, along with lower humidity.
