BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) – The City of Buffalo has created a new commission which will recommend police policy in hopes of advancing social reconstruction.
According to a news release from the mayor's office, the commission is tasked with identifying ways policing can be improved, especially in the Black community. It will develop a strategy to improve the quality of life of Black residents who have faced race-based barriers to social and economic advancement.
The commission is made up by civil rights, social justice activists, law enforcement, common council representatives, and others in government.
It will examine current police practices and recommend additional policies the department can implement. The commission has 60 days to generate a report and present it to the mayor's office.
