Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown is seeking federal help to cover cleanup costs from Monday's EF-1 tornado to strike the Lower West Side neighborhood. Residents will also get extra help in cleaning up from the tornado.

Brown says he has been working closely with U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer.

"I want to thank Sen. Schumer for reaching out to my office, and the work that he is doing to identify, if any, federal funding that will be available to help us address this tornado," said Brown.

Brown adds the city will be starting a special tornado curbside pickup of debris only in the affected area.

"We know that there is a significant amount of debris that is in the affected area, and we realize that residents and business owners will require some assistance in getting that debris disposed of," Brown said.

Operation Clean Sweep will also be in the areas on Wednesday.

Brown anticipates the damage total to exceed the $2.5 million already recorded.
