Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - It only seems customary for friendly bets to be made between cities that face each other in big matchups over the course of a sports season, especially come time for the playoffs.
When it comes to Buffalo and Jacksonville, a friendly wager between both mayors for Sunday's playoff matchup between the Bills and Jaguars has a little bit of an added caveat that will benefit both communities.
"God forbid, if [the Bills] lose, we are going to send you down some authentic Buffalo wings, and we'd also like to make a donation to your foodbank, Feeding Northeast Florida," said Buffalo Mayor Sean Ryan during a phone call with Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan on Friday.
As for the Jacksonville Mayor's wager:
"In the extraordinarily unlikely event the Jaguars should lose, which they won't, you will be getting the most tremendous shrimp - Mayport Shrimp. Doesn't get any better than that. And we will be sending a contribution to FeedMore WNY," Deegan said on Friday.
While Ryan told Deegan he can't be in attendance for Sunday's playoff matchup at EverBank Stadium, the Buffalo Mayor said he would be sending down "a few thousand" Bills fans to Jacksonville in his stead.
With the influx of "Bills Mafia" expected this weekend in Jacksonville, Ryan has some friendly advice for Mayor Deegan and the city:
"You might want to put a note out to your bar and hospitality people: Make sure they have a lot of beer, because Buffalo fans seem to drink a lot of beer when they travel," Ryan said.
Deegan also heard she may have to guard the city's tables from Bills fans ahead of Sunday's contest.
"Two calls: One to the bars, tell them to stock up. Second, to the hardware stores. Tell them we need a lot of folding tables," Ryan joked.
Kickoff on Sunday is slated for 1 p.m.
