Arlington, TX (WBEN) The Medal of Honor Museum is officially open in suburban Dallas. Those who are honored say it's more than about war.

WBEN's David Bellavia was on the board as the museum was being developed. "You think it's almost like the Bills stadium. It's not real until you actually see it. And then next thing, it's opening day in a new stadium. It's kind of how it is for all of us," says Bellavia.

Bellavia says you'll see artifacts you won't find anywhere else. "They've got a full Huey helicopter from when General Pat Brady received the Medal of Honor in Vietnam. They've got pretty much everyone's uniform, the weapons and the boots, and you name it," adds Bellavia.

Earl Plumlee, another Medal of Honor recipient, says it's more than about the wars. "It captures other aspects of the recipients. What they did as children, their service, and it's so neat to see the recipients showcased for things other than their actions," says Plumlee.

Brit Skabinski says seeing the musuem was an emotional experience for him. "It's not so much a singular distinction, it's a reflection of American values as a whole," says Skabinski.

Bellavia says a member of the NFL family played a big role. "Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys, the family, adopted this program and project, and really, without Jerry Jones and Charlotte Jones, this doesn't happen," says Bellavia. The museum is near the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
