BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN).....To the operators of Mercy Flight, the annual "The Bash" fund raiser is about more than having a good time.

It is about securing funds, especially against the backdrop of rising operational costs for ist four helicopters and 20 ambulances.

"They are there when minutes matter the most," said Bryan Wittman, Dry Creek Group founder and "The Bash" organizer.

"The Bash" is set for 7 p.m. to 11 p.,m. this Saturday, Sept. 19, at Buffalo Riverworks.

Highlights include performances by Nerds Gone Wild and a massive 10 p.m. fireworks display.

Mercy Flight, now in its 45th year, has handled more than 33,000 life saving missions since its inception.

Wittman said that translates to getting a call for one of its copters or ambulances once every four hours.

"And, remember they only getting called for the most traumatic of cases," Wittman said.

Mercy Flight is a 501(c) 3 and is headquartered at 100 Amherst Villa Drive in Cheektowaga.
