Cheektowaga, N.Y. (WBEN) - A Cheektowaga hotel housing migrants for weeks now was evacuated late Sunday after the facility's sprinkler system failed, flooding the hotel.
Police and fire officials responded to the scene, as hotel occupants could be seen in the parking lot awaiting guidance for what would come next.
WBEN was told by sources the migrants may be moved to one of two other Cheektowaga hotel locations already housing migrants, or possibly the Red Roof Inn Plus in Amherst, which began accepting some of the local migrant population over the weekend.
We were also told the Red Roof Inn location had reached its maximum occupancy.
The evacuation comes at the same time officials were working to close the Dingens Street hotel in Cheektowaga that had been the location of two alleged sexual assault reports, as well as disruptive behavior in nearby residential areas.
A hearing is scheduled for Monday afternoon that will determine if a restraining order issued late last week can continue to restrict Cheektowaga from accepting more migrant population.
