Orchard Park, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Buffalo Bills released their new "Nickel City" alternate uniforms set to be featured this upcoming season, and there was plenty of mixed reaction from members of "Bills Mafia" to the unveiling.
A number of fans were pleased with the new look for the Bills this year, including elements that have never been featured on a Buffalo uniform in the past.
"I mean, I liked the one last year, and that one didn't really do us too good. So I'm really hoping this one's better. But I like the colors of it, and I like the new design," said Paige from Pennsylvania in an interview with WBEN.
"The uniform looks nice. The gray color and the accents are nice. The helmet is very distinctive. I didn't see right away what the insignias were, but it's very catchy. The blue is nice," added Glen from Cattaraugus with WBEN. "It's something different we haven't seen. Hopefully, it'll be a good one for him to wear."
For some Bills fans like Joe from Houston, Texas, he questions some of the design elements with the uniform.
"The gray seems to be very like baseball away uniform, but it's different," Joe said with WBEN. "It's unique, and I'm sure the Bills will do great in it."
As for others like Rick from Denver, they feel the Bills got the uniform concept completely wrong.
"Who was the marketing firm that put those damn jerseys together? That uniform is disgusting. Shoot it to the moon. It's terrible," Rick said when calling into our sister station WGR Sports Radio 550. "What they should have done is done some version of the 1960-61 color combination, keep it clean. They just blew it."
What about a player's perspective on the new uniform? How does someone like Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins feel about the new look? He admits it took him a bit to warm up to the new uniform.
"The gray is different, the helmet is drastically different. I can be honest, when I first seen it, it didn't grab me. I'm an honest guy, when I first seen it, not on me, it did not grab me. And then when I put it on, and then I started to add the blue shirt underneath, the right cleats and the right gloves, I said, 'Alright. Now I see the whole vision, and they're honestly fire," said Dawkins during an event Monday outside the old Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park. "They are elite, and I'm happy that we have them."
As someone who admittedly does not like change, Dawkins feels the new uniforms tie into the new Highmark Stadium across the street perfectly.
"We're in 2026, and the world is different. We went from old Highmark Stadium to a brand new stadium that shouldn't be in Buffalo," Dawkins said. "That is in Buffalo, but could be anywhere in the country like L.A. [Los Angeles] or Dubai, or anywhere crazy like that. That's where that stadium should be. That's the correlation I feel about those jerseys. We deserve it. It's new, it's different, and the world of the Buffalo Bills - that chapter has changed."
