Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - "It is definitely Easter at the Broadway Market."

Some will call it the "Most Wonderful Time of the Year" at the Broadway Market, as Easter Week has officially commenced Monday morning, bringing with it the busiest week of the year in East Buffalo.

"We're looking at a very busy week," said manager at the Broadway Market, Kathy Peterson in an interview with WBEN on Monday. "I've really noticed over the weekend, so many young families coming in with their children, visiting the Easter Bunny, getting candy from Kelly's Country Store and Strawberry Island, and lots of other treats. So it's back in full swing, and we're glad to see it's going to warm up a little bit."

All this week, the Broadway Market will be open for the public:

- Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: 8 a.m.-to-6 p.m. ET
- Thursday and Friday: 8 a.m.-to-7 p.m. ET
- Saturday: 8 a.m.-to-5 p.m. ET

According to Peterson, the Thursday and Friday before Easter are traditionally the busiest days for the Easter season.

"The Easter season is a festival. Just like any festival, you expect an increase in attendance, which we're very glad happens every year," Peterson said. "And then throughout the year, we have different festivals, and then our normal community and customers support the market all year long, because we are open Monday through Saturday, every day from 8 a.m.-to-5 p.m. So quite naturally, next week or the week after Easter is going to look a little different than this week, because all of our seasonal vendors will have gone. But it's just a totally different thing. This is a festival that's highly promoted, people anticipate it all year long, and it's supported wonderfully by the Western New York community."

Peterson says there are a number of new and returning vendors to the Broadway Market this Easter season, especially when it comes to bakeries.

"We have our traditional bakeries that are there at Easter - Chrusciki Bakery, Mazurek’s, we have a Greek bakery [Greek Guy Bakery], Oasis Bakery who are there all year long. Then this year we have Chicaliyah, which is a bakery out in Depew, who's joining us this year, The Mad Crazy Batter, who is from Little Valley, Cake Crazy - this is her first year at Easter, although she does open other times throughout the year - and Muscoreil’s Fine Desserts is also joining us. So we have a lot of great bakeries," she said.

Then there are your more traditional places at the Market, including your classic butcher shops.

"Lupas Meats, Camellia Meats, Broadway Seafood, Famous Horseradish, J & M Produce is joining us this year with wonderful produce and Easter plants, pussy willows. Enchanted Cards & Gifts has all your traditional Polish items, your wooden eggs, Amber Gems the same, and they're open all year long. It's a mix," Peterson detailed.

As for some of the new vendors, Peterson says there are about 50 additional vendors who come in just for this season.

"A couple of them: One woman is from New Jersey, who has the nesting dolls, beautiful handmade nesting dolls. And then Forever Green [Family] Farm comes from Pittsburgh. It's a blend of both," she said.
