New Bishop of Buffalo pulling for the Bills despite Baltimore background

Bishop Michael Fisher
Diocese of Buffalo

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - On Friday, Bishop Michael William Fisher will be installed as leader of the Buffalo Diocese. On Saturday, he faces his first test to see how well he will embrace his adopted city.

Fisher was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute high school, and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Accounting at the University of Maryland in 1984. Later in life, he entered seminary at Mount Saint Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

So when the Buffalo Bills take on the Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs a day after he is installed as Bishop of Buffalo, who will he be rooting for?

"Coming here to Buffalo, let me be clear, I'll be rooting for the Bills," Bishop Fisher told WBEN Thursday morning.

Fisher said he was a Colts fan and not a Ravens fan in the past because it was the Baltimore Colts that were the area's team when he was younger and Johnny Unitas was the big name on the field. It's a more personal connection though, and a different superstar, that will make pulling for the Bills easy.

Bills Wide Receiver Stefon Diggs played football and ran track as a student at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Montgomery County, Maryland, and later played at the University of Maryland, Fisher's alma mater.

Bishop Fisher told WBEN he sees that as a connection with the player and the team, something he's looking to embrace in his first full day on the job.
