BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN)......A single-story building that straddles the Buffalo and Town of Tonawanda municipal lines and is best known for housing a Jewish "schvitz" - or spa - is finding a new life as a private office.
Crews have begun renovating the 6,400-square-foot building - located at 672 Kenmore Avenue in Buffalo - into offices that will be housed by prominent Buffalo attorney Steve Boyd.
Constructed in 1940 and located near the busy Kenmore Avenue/Starin Avenue intersection where Buffalo and Tonawanda meet, the building is best known for the schvitz that operated for decades before closing in the late 1980s, according to City of Buffalo records.
It briefly operated as a Turkish bathhouse but has been vacant since the early 1990s.
The renovation work is being overseen by Michael Anderson, Abstract Architetcture.
Anderson said Boyd's offices should be ready by early spring.
