(WBEN) Extreme heat this week is increasing electricity demand across New York State, raising the risk of power outages, officials said.
Gov. Kathy Hochul urged residents to take steps to conserve energy. Her guidance includes setting air conditioning to 75 to 78 degrees, avoiding unnecessary appliance use and turning off lights and appliances when they are not needed.
Hochul also said her administration is coordinating with Con Edison, the New York Independent System Operator, and New York City leaders to reduce demand across the grid.
