Newstead man arrested after dragging Sheriff's deputy during traffic stop

Newstead, N.Y. (WBEN) - 40-year-old Michael Trybuskiewicz of Newstead was arrested Tuesday night after he dragged a Sheriff's deputy through a rocky culvert near the intersection of Buell and Main Streets.

The Erie County Sheriff's Office says deputies were aware of Trybuskiewicz due to an outstanding warrant. The deputies spotted him sitting in his vehicle around 4:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday when they attempted to execute the warrant.


Trybuskiewicz sped off as deputies approached his vehicle, dragging and causing minor injuries to one deputy. The deputy was treated at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital and has been released.

Trybuskiewicz was taken into custody at around 9:15 p.m. ET where he's since been charged with Assault in the Second Degree, Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, Resisting Arrest and Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree.
