NFTA Transit Police arrest man for illegal transportation of weapons

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - NFTA Transit Police announced the arrest a 29-year-old man transporting multiple firearms with the intent to sell. The arrest occurred this past Friday at the Buffalo Metro Transportation Center, located at 181 Ellicott Street, following information provided by the Homeland Security Investigations Border Enforcement Security Task Force.

At approximately 7 p.m. EST on Friday, the suspect, identified as Jaleel Battle, arrived in Buffalo after traveling by bus from Atlanta, Ga. Upon arrival, NFTA Transit Police executed a search warrant and discovered seven firearms in Battle’s possession, including a Glock 26 handgun and a Smith & Wesson M&P .40.

Battle was immediately taken into custody, where he has been charged with seven counts of criminal possession of a firearm, one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, one count of possession of a weapon that has been defaced and one possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device.

"This arrest underscores the importance of strong partnerships with federal agencies like Homeland Security and our commitment to keeping illegal weapons off our streets."
