West Seneca, N.Y. (WBEN) - West Seneca West Middle School was placed in 'shelter in place' mode Friday morning after a report was received that a student was in possession of a weapon.
The shelter in place involved all students remaining in their classrooms with their teachers.
The district worked in partnership with the West Seneca Police to conduct a thorough investigation and came to the 'firm conclusion' that there is no credible threat and that all students are safe.
Normal school operations resumed with an increased police presence out of an abundance of caution.
Earlier in the day, Gowanda, Southwestern and Pine Valley districts all closed due to threats of violence.
Across the country, some parents kept their children home, police stepped up patrols and educators tightened security protocols Friday in response to viral TikTok posts alluding to unconfirmed threats of violence that raised anxiety levels at schools nationwide.
