BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) – Your best bet to watch fireworks on the Fourth of July will not be in the City of Buffalo.
Canalside, which has held the largest fireworks celebration in recent years, will not hold a fireworks display this year.
“As you are making your Fourth of July plans for this weekend, the Buffalo Waterfront will have plenty for families to do!” an official from Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation said in a statement. “We encourage Buffalonians to come out and explore the many activities and businesses open this weekend and throughout the summer at Canalside and Outer Harbor.”
There are also no fireworks planned at Sahlen Field.
Russell Salvatore, who has put on several large shows with the city, said he’s planning a private fireworks show, but he said it won’t nearly as dynamic as events he has done in the past with Buffalo.
“There’s nothing at all,” Salvatore said. “Nobody’s doing nothing. I’ve done them for years and I really miss doing them for the entire community.
It was too close to see if they were going to allow people out and everything.”
He’s hoping next year will feature the return of large fireworks in the city.
But there’s still plenty of options for you to see a show this weekend. Many shows are still happening outside of the city.
Among the places outside the city hosting a fireworks show is Holiday Valley. They will have a Fourth of July fireworks show as part of Ellicottville’s Summer Music Festival.
“People are so anxious to get out and socialize again and enjoy being together,” Jane Eshbaugh of Holiday Valley said. “I think it’s going to be great.”
One of the largest fireworks shows this weekend will be at Highmark Stadium.
