Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Fillmore District Councilman Mitch Nowakowski may be eyeing a political promotion.

Nowakowski is apparently eyeing a seat in the New York State Senate currently held by State Sen. Tim Kennedy.

"In the event of a seat vacancy for the 63rd New York State Senate seat, I have expressed my interest in filling the seat with the chairman of the Erie County Democratic Committee when and if that time comes," said Nowakowski in a statement on Wednesday.

The 63rd district seat is currently held by Kennedy, who has thrown his hat into the ring for Brian Higgins' seat in Congress.

Gov. Hochul is expected to schedule a special election for New York's 26th Congressional district seat after Higgins formally resigns in early February to take over leadership at Shea's Buffalo Theatre.
