North Tonawanda, N.Y. (WBEN) - A national contest is looking for America's favorite farmer's market, and one local market is in contention to win the national title and the top prize of $5,000.

Chris Delprince of the North Tonawanda Farmer's Market says he learned about the competition through their farmers market Federation, throughout New York State, and it's a competition that sweeps across the country.

"We need votes we need people to vote on... they can go to Ntmarket.org," said Delprince.

The American Farmland Trust is the agency who puts this competition on for the farmer markets.

Delprince says there's a lot at stake with this competition.

"The notoriety and all the marketing is what I'm more interested in. But there's cash prizes. First prize is $5,000. Second is $2,500. If you win the state, you get $100," Delprince explained.

As of Monday, the North Tonawanda Farmer's Market is in second place nationwide.

Delprince says if you haven't been to the farmer's market, it's a great place to check out.

"We've been around since 1908. One of the best markets around 146 stalls we have it showcases our beautiful North Tonawanda farmers. They grow probably the best produce and fruit. And we have such a variety of vendors over here," Delprince said.

The market is located at 310 Robinson Road in North Tonawanda.
