Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The National Weather Service is looking at the possibility of multiple tornados that may have touched down across Western New York Wednesday.
""We did have at least six tornado warnings we issued last evening, so there probably could be at least two to three," National Weather Service meteorologist Liz Jurkowski tells WBEN. They'll be sending out surveyors Thursday to observe damage.
Tornado Warnings were issued in Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming and Allegany counties Wednesday evening, with towns like Newfane, Medina, Oakfield, Le Roy, and Batavia all included in those warnings.
"We did have some reports of at least a waterspout coming on land, so that would make that a tornado coming off of Lake Ontario into the Niagara County region last night," Jurkowski tells WBEN.
Jusrkowski says Wednesday's weather was rare for WNY.
"A lot of the pictures we were seeing that were coming in were really nice, severe weather supercells. What I was reminiscing is what I would see when I was out storm chasing in the midwest."
The storms also caused power outages. National Grid and NYSEG have outage trackers on their website.
