Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The National Weather Service is looking at the possibility of multiple tornados that may have touched down across Western New York on Wednesday.
""We did have, at least, six Tornado Warnings we issued last evening, so there probably could be, at least, two to three," National Weather Service meteorologist Liz Jurkowski told WBEN on Thursday.
They'll be sending out surveyors Thursday to observe damage.
Tornado Warnings were issued in Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming and Allegany counties Wednesday evening, with towns like Newfane, Medina, Oakfield, Le Roy, and Batavia all included in those warnings.
"We did have some reports of, at least, a waterspout coming on land, so that would make that a tornado coming off of Lake Ontario into the Niagara County region last night," Jurkowski said.
Wednesday's weather was rare for Western New York, according to Jurkowski.
"A lot of the pictures we were seeing that were coming in were really nice, severe weather supercells. What I was reminiscing is what I would see when I was out storm chasing in the Midwest," Jurkowski added.
The storms also caused power outages. National Grid and NYSEG have outage trackers on their website.
It may take a number of days for the National Weather Service to confirm whether or not a tornado touched down throughout the region.
