NYSP: Monday night's shooting in Perrysburg deemed murder-suicide

Troopers say an argument earlier in the day led to one person shooting two others, before turning the gun on himself

Perrysburg, N.Y. (WBEN) - New York State Police say the suspect in Monday's shooting on the Cattaraugus Indian Territory turned the gun on himself after firing at two people inside a vehicle. Troopers say there was an argument prior to the shooting.

According to State Police, its investigation found Tylin Thomas Jr., 18 of Perrysburg, was standing on Whites Drive outside a 2012 Buick Verano occupied by Ryan Mohawk, 23, Perrysburg, (driver) and Caleb Stafford, 23 of Perrysburg, (passenger).

Thomas shot the Buick with an AK-47 style weapon and fatally stuck Mohawk, while injuring Stafford. Thomas took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Stafford was able to drive the Buick to a nearby residence to contact law enforcement.

The investigation further reveals that all three individuals were involved had an argument earlier in the day, and all had a level of intoxication when the incident occurred.

Autopsies were conducted at Olean General Hospital, where Mohawk’s death was ruled a homicide and Thomas' was ruled suicide.

The investigation remains active.
