Hamburg, N.Y. (WBEN) - One woman is dead in an officer-involved shooting on Friday at a home along McKinley Parkway near Willet Road.
Police Cpt. Todd Ehret says the Town of Hamburg Police received a 9-1-1 call from residents on Willet Road at about 10:30 a.m. EST on Friday to report a burglary in progress.
"Our officers responded to the Willet Road address, where they received a description of a subject who had committed the burglary from the homeowner on scene," Ehret said in a brief update with the media on Friday.
Cpt. Ehret then says the subject was tracked to a residence on McKinley Parkway, where responding officers found an open door to the residence.
"[Officers] announced themselves and made an entry to clear the house. Upon entry, one of the officers encountered a female in the residence, where an altercation ensued," Ehret detailed. "The officer did discharged his firearm, striking to subject."
Cpt. Ehret said officers on scene immediately began rendering first aid to the woman, and EMS later took over advanced life support efforts upon arrival.
The woman was eventually pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police closed McKinley Parkway for some time from Lake Avenue to Willet Road as they continued their investigation.
Hamburg police say the investigation remains ongoing, and are being assisted by New York State Police, as well as the New York State Attorney General's Office, as per standard procedure with an officer-involved shooting.
