OP, Williamsville schools to reopen full time May 17
Temporary order calls for schools to reopen if COVID rate is at 100 per 100,000 cases
Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - The legal challenges and complications of returning to school fully in two large Buffalo area school districts took an additional legal turn late Friday.
A judge has ordered schools in Williamsville and Orchard Park to reopen May 17th. It's a temporary order as the hearing on the matter resumes Monday.
Judge Emilio Colaiacovo issues a temporary ruling ordering middle and high schools in those two districts to reopen May 17th "so long as community transmission rates are at, or closely near, 100 per 100,000 people."
"The state needed to prove there was evidence for a rational basis for the guidance," Williamsville parent Dana Hensley and a plaintiff in the case told WBEN's Tom Bauerle Friday. "And there is no evidence that there's a rational basis for their guidance of six feet."
"They don't have any data."
The joint hearing in lawsuits filed by parents in those districts will resume Monday.
