Orchard Park, N.Y. (WBEN) - Orchard Park police have arrested a man they say tried to break into parked vehicles.
At around 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, police say a man was checking door handles on Powers Road near Scherff. 33-year-old Cody Cook entered a dark colored SUV onto Scheff Road, where police tried to stop him.
Police then say Cook drove off at a high rate of speed, but crashed into a tree at Wildwood Lane. Cook was then captured after a brief foot chase.
Cook was charged with Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in the Third Degree, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Third Degree, and nine Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. He was issued appearance tickets and is scheduled to return to Orchard Park Town Court at a later date.
Additionally, stolen property belonging to local residents was recovered from the vehicle.
Additional charges are pending.
