BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Buffalo's Outer Harbor will host a drive-in concert series beginning in June.
The series starts June 11 with Sunsquabi and Too Many Zooz. Joining the two acts will be Buffalo-based Witty Tarbox.
"I can't express enough how excited I am about it," Mike Marshall, Promoter of MNM Presents, said. "This is my lifeblood and what I do. We haven't been able to do it in a long time. The fact that we're able to and able to in a safe and comfortable way and in some ways a better way. We're pumped."
The drive-in series allows people to be separated. Concertgoers won't be allowed to interact with other groups and there will be a mask requirement except for when food and drinks are consumed. Those attending the concert series are encouraged to bring chairs and their own food and drink because none will be sold on site.
Tickets for the show start at $165 and are based on a vehicle rather an individual ticket. Marshall said that ticket gives you an entire car and dancing space. Front row tickets cost $235. Second row tickets are $200. Third and fourth row tickets are $180.
"When you get three or four of your other friends going with you, you're all splitting the ticket," Marshall said.
Buffalo Waterfront's Director of Events, Brad Menza, said they needed to ensure that people are arriving and leaving together.
"It's really tough for us to set up having a ticket for a two-person car or a three-person car or a single car," Menza said. "Because of the way the site is laid out and the way we need to space it out, we need to make this financially viable for everyone. If you can put four or five in your car, you're at probably $30 to $40 per person, which we think is a pretty fair value."
There's no immediate plans for large-scale concerts at Canalside the summer, according to Menza.
"This summer we're focused on safe and efficient ways to do these drive-in models," he said. "...We're definitely looking at taking some of the programs you're accustomed to seeing at Canalside to the Outer Harbor."
For now, the June 11 concert is the only one announced, though Marshall said conversations are continuing about future shows.
Organizers of the event are only planning for a drive-in series, in part, due to the uncertainty of what restrictions will be throughout the summer. There may be changes to the series depending on what the restrictions are
Presale tickets start Thursday morning and are public on Friday morning. Additional information can be found here
