Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - We're not there yet, but Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz has set parameters to lift the indoor mask mandate for Erie County owned facilities.
In a tweeted message Tuesday, Poloncarz said the mandate would be lifted if the Erie County weekly COVID positivity rate falls below 3 percent and settles into the CDC's 'substantial risk' category or of the county falls into the CDC's 'moderate risk' level.
The current weekly positivity rate is at 4 percent and Poloncarz predicts the rate could fall into the zone to allow the mandate to be lifted within the next few days if the current trend continues.
"Regardless of whatever action is taken by Erie County regarding its requirement for masking in county owned facilities, any applicable NYS rules would still be in effect for large-scale indoor events," added Poloncard in a follow-up tweet.
