Orchard Park, N.Y. (WBEN) - Several local officials joined the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday to officially commemorate the milestone of substantial completion for the new Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park.
This comes a little more than three years after officials celebrated the groundbreaking for the $2.2 billion state-of-the-art, football-first stadium along Abbott Road. The facility officially seats 60,108 fans on Bills game days, and will now feature a natural grass playing surface.
The stadium will host its first football event on Friday, Aug. 7 with the annual "Return of the Blue and Red" scrimmage during Bills training camp. The first regular season the stadium will host will take place Thursday, Sept. 17 against the Detroit Lions.
