Newstead, NY (WBEN) A small plane pilot is hospitalized after a Monday afternoon crash at the Akron Airport. Deputies say the pilot was trying to take off when the crash happened.
Erie County Sheriff's deputies responded to a small aircraft crash at the Akron Airport in Newstead at 3 pm Monday.
The pilot and sole occupant suffered serious injuries, and he was taken to Erie County Medical Center by a Mercy Flight helicopter.
The Village of Akron Police Department and the Newstead Volunteer Fire Company are assisting with the incident.
The Federal Aviation Administration is handling the investigation.
