Buffalo, NY (WBEN) A man is dead after police say a car struck him and the driver sped off.
At 11:15 p.m. Thursday, Buffalo Police say they responded to the hit and run on the Bailey Avenue bridge between West Shore Avenue and Pullman Place and found a man unconscious but alive in the center of the roadway. He was taken to Erie County Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Witnesses reported that the victim, identified as 36-year-old Zaire Allison. had been traveling southbound in a wheelchair while positioned in the northbound lane of Bailey Avenue. He was struck by an unidentified northbound vehicle, which fled the scene after the impact. The collision ejected Allison from the wheelchair and propelled the unoccupied wheelchair into the southbound lane, where it was subsequently hit by a second vehicle. The occupants of that vehicle pulled over immediately and attempted to provide aid until first responders arrived.
The Buffalo Police Accident Investigation Unit (AIU) is currently investigating the incident. There is no description of the vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to contact the BPD Tip Line at 716-847-2255.
