Political leaders react to Trump COVID diagnosis

"These results should be a wake-up call"

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Reaction to the overnight news that President Trump has tested positive for COVID-19 is coming fast and furious with political leaders on both sides of the political aisle offering thoughts, prayers and support.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, outspoken on the COVID issue and at political odds with President Trump tweeted, "My thoughts are with President Trump and the First Lady and I wish them a full and speedy recovery."


Congressman Brian Higgins, a Democrat, offering his support for the President and pointing to the seriousness of COVID-19 in saying; "News that the President and First Lady have tested positive for COVID-19 is an urgent reminder that everyone is vulnerable. While we wish the first couple a speedy recovery, these results should be a wake-up call to the Administration & us all to take this virus seriously."

Republican Congressman Tom Reed sending prayers to the White House overnight and tweeting; "Sending our prayers and best wishes to the @realDonaldTrump and @FLOTUS. We wish them a speedy and full recovery."

Congressman Chris Jacobs, a Republican, releasing a brief statement early Friday, saying; "I join all Americans in wishing the President and First Lady a quick recovery. My prayers are with them and the First Family."
