(WBEN) - Any re-election bid from Governor Andrew Cuomo may not have the support he has enjoyed in the past.
Just one-third of New York voters say Cuomo should run for re-election, according to a new Siena Research poll.
Asked what they would like Governor Andrew Cuomo to do, 23% of polled voters said he should resign immediately, 39% said he should serve out his term but not seek re-election, and 33% said he should continue to serve and run again. Cuomo’s 45-47% favorability rating is little changed from 44-48% last month. His job performance rating is negative 41-56%, from 42-55% in May.
“The good news for the Governor is that only 23 percent of New Yorkers want him to resign immediately," said Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg. "However, when you add those voters to the 39 percent who say he should serve out his term but not seek re-election, 62 percent say he should not run for a fourth term.”
The survey of 809 registered voters was conducted from June 22 to June 29; it has a margin of error of 4.1 percentage points.
The State Assembly Judiciary Committee met this week and announced that subpoenas will be issued in the impeachment investigation against the governor.

Cuomo is under investigation for the alleged sexual harassment of multiple female aides, accusations that his administration knowingly withheld nursing home data, and for improper use of government resources to write a book during the height of the pandemic that paid him millions of dollars, among other scandals.
"Those investigations took a huge hit on the governor's ratings with voters," said Greenberg. "He took a major drop in March." When asked if Cuomo should be impeached, poll numbers were a little tighter.
"Only 35% of New Yorkers would like to see the Assembly impeach Governor Cuomo, 45%, say the Assembly should not impeach him right now." Breaking it down even further, 57% of Republicans say Cuomo should be impeached. 53% of Democrats say he should not be impeached and among Independents, 37% say yes to impeachment. 39% say no.
There's no indication that the governor has made up his mind about running again. But earlier this week, Cuomo raised over a million dollars at a ten thousand dollar a plate fundraiser in New York City.
