Attica, N.Y. (WBEN) – Due to investigations into possible exposures to unknown substances, visitation is canceled at Attica, Cape Vincent, and Wyoming Correctional Facilities.

More exposure incidents occurred Thursday evening and Friday at Attica Correctional Facility. At least five separate events there this week sent staffers to the hospital.

The Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) provided details to WBEN about the most recent incidents:

DOCCS: Around 5:00 PM on March 20th at Wyoming Correctional Facility, two correction officers experienced lightheadedness and vomiting after escorting an incarcerated individual, who appeared to be highly intoxicated, to the facility infirmary. Shortly after, three additional correction officers experienced lightheadedness and elevated blood pressure. After being evaluated by facility medical staff, the incarcerated individual and all five officers were transported to outside hospitals for further evaluation. None of the officers remained on duty, and they have all been medically discharged. The investigation is ongoing.

On March 21st at Attica Correctional Facility, six incarcerated individuals fell ill. One individual required Narcan and was transported to an outside hospital. The other five individuals remain in the facility infirmary. Additionally, eight security staff members began experiencing similar symptoms and were transported to outside hospitals. The investigation is ongoing.
