Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Preservationists and parishioners will make their case for five Buffalo churches to be given local landmark status at a public hearing in the Common Council's chambers Tuesday afternoon.
The hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET and is part of the Council's Legislation Committee meeting. The discussion about the churches are agenda items 35-39.
Preservation Buffalo Niagara is behind the campaign, called "Save Our Sacred Sites", which hopes to preserve churches that were ordered to close by the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo in September.
The five churches up for landmark status are Our Lady or Perpetual Help, St. John Kanty, St. Stanislaus, St. Rose of Lima and St. Thomas Aquinas.
