Residential fire on Empire Street leaves 21-year-old woman dead

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A 21-year-old female died in a multiple alarm house fire on Empire Street in Buffalo on Wednesday morning.

Buffalo Fire responded to the call just before 6:40 a.m. ET at 31 Empire Street.

Fire officials say the fire started on the second floor of the occupied residential structure.

Fire Commissioner William Renaldo said crews from Engine 22 and other responding crews faced heavy smoke and fire conditions upon arrival.

The commissioner said four other family members were able to make it out safely and they are being assisted by the Red Cross at this time.

Investigators say damage is estimated at $150,000.

Fire officials also report exposure damage occurred at 33 Empire Street, resulting in $20,000 in damages.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
