NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WBEN).....The revival of the oft-overlooked Tonawanda Island is moving forward with one of the largest residential-anchored developments in North Tonawanda's recent history.
Clarence-based VisconeCo. Site Development is prepping to begin work on the $24 million Bridge Street Landing complex - set for a long vacant Tonawanda Island parcel at 78 Bridge Street.
"It is a very unique site and that's what attracted us," said Tom Celik, VisconeCo. chief operating officer.
Bridge Street Landing will be anchored by a four-story, 114-unit apartment complex along with nine waterfront short term rental units, a public river walk and some commercial space.
For Viscone, the project bookends a pair of apartment complexes the company has developed along River Road - just south of Gratwick Park.
"North Tonawanda works well for us," Celik said. "NT has a lot going for it."
Bridge Street Landing is being aided by a 15-year payment-in-lieu-of taxes package approved June 17 by the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency directors.
Celik said construction will start in September and Bridge Street Landing should be tenant move-in ready by mid-2028.
