Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) – After four years, Douglas Jemal will transfer operation of the Richardson Hotel Buffalo to its board of directors.
As of July 1, the 40-acre property - designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and located off Elmwood and Forest Avenues - will be overseen by the non-profit board.
"This is a natural progression for the organization, and the board wants to thank Doug Jemal for the effort he put into running the hotel and his vision for its success," said Richardson Board Chair Paul R. Hojnacki. "Douglas Jemal stepped in wholeheartedly and gave us a lifeline at a critical moment in time."
"Nothing is changing for those visiting, staying at the hotel, or holding major events here," Hojnacki added. "We are certain that the transition of operations will be smooth, and we're looking forward to fulfilling the board's vision for this amazing campus."
Jemal took over management of the hotel in 2021 and re-opened it in March 2023 after completing extensive redesign work.
"We accomplished what I set out to do—preserve a National Historic Landmark for Western New York—and we spent millions in the process. I'm proud of the hotel's beauty and quality," Jemal said. "At this point, for the good of the hotel and my other projects, it's best to return the hotel to the board's full control."
